I’ve been thinking of you often, each time I read in the news about Sweden’s novel approach to the pandemic. I hope you’re safe.

It’s interesting reading the news from the US and their take on Sweden’s approach to Covid 19. Most of the articles I’ve read have it all wrong. We’re not living life as if there is no worry about the virus. Indeed, things are not at all normal here. Take care and stay safe and well.
I know what you mean. There are something things that cannot be said in five words or less, and the news has a built-in conflict of interest in terms of needing your attention. The things I’ve read have been interesting and I’ve been astonished at how thinking people can come up with creative ideas – which is what I meant by novel. As opposed to our approach, which has been … I don’t know … a nightmare within another nightmare?
Anyway, got to run. I’m meeting up with some friends for an armed protest at city hall, because they had the audacity to infringe on my rights to not wash my hands.
This virus is affecting people in different ways – so many friends/family are working from home, schools are closed, hospitals do not allow visitors, restaurants are closed except for carry out and much more – not to mention what it is doing to my retirement income. Shopping today and I do not understand the panic people are having by stocking up on certain grocery items – no milk but almond. We will all get through this by doing our part – but we must be patient. A sister has stage 4 cancer so we are taking extra precautions with her.
I am having a hard time posting anything new – it’s been 12 days for me. I should really try but time has been at a premium lately. You and your family stay safe Ron.
Judy, thanks for your wonderful comment. Schools here are trying to hold classes via Google classroom remotely as all the kids are at home. Most that can work from home are doing such and those with the disease are self-isolating at home unless they need the hospital. Those of us at high risk or over 70 are, for the most part, self-quarantining ourselves. Those of us who are able to, are helping family, friends and those who need a hand. Thankfully, we’ve not had any Food markets left bare bone and we’ve plenty of toilet paper. The only thing in short supply is hand sanitizer, but that will be better in a week or so.
I noticed we were able to get a St. Paddy Day post up and I’m headed over to read it as soon as I finish this comment. Thanks for stopping by and you guys hang in there.

With all my recent computer problems I only realized you had written this just now. My bestest wishes to you for up to the six months of a very different life at least our Australian Government is telling us is in our future. Living in a semi-rural area and working and studying from home I think I am pretty up to making myself ‘safe’ as long as all my on-line deliveries do arrive. Time to be in contact with friends on line, read all the pile of books all over the house, actually have time to watch a movie and take long autumnal walks outdoors . . . For the first time in my life I am switching off the news at times . . . all of it seems apocalyptic. “Tough’ Australia seems to be ‘preening’ after our brave fights against fire and flood . . . our schools are fully open and tonight the football season will begin ! Not necessarily wise. Thank God we only have had six deaths so far, all over 75 and three from the same nursing home. Quo vadis ? Let us pray to the Higher Powers and act wise. We cannot change the cards which we have been dealt . . . . best to Eva and you . . . Chloe will be delighted by these strange happenings . . .
Thank you Eha for your warm comment. We too live somewhat rurally, but still have folks around so we’re being as careful as possible. I’m fed up with the news as well as they are not helping matters in my opinion. Yes, we need to be informed, but why don’t they talk about all the folks that have recovered. We need more nice reports, like Tom Hanks recent tweet. As you point out, “We cannot change the cards which we have been dealt…” but this too shall pass…Stay very safe down there my friend.

Gorgeous photo, Ron! Love those flowers and can’t wait until we see them here. Grocery stores here with shelf after shelf empty, little bread, milk, no pasta, no rice, butter of all things is gone, pizzas, canned veggies, toilet paper, kleenex, paper towels, on and on, even chewing gum and candy at checkouts and this is a large local store, same as all the others. It would be nice if people would quit hoarding, etc, I blame it all on the media, they should keep their mouths shut!

Hi Pam, the image was taken in the summer, so hopefully when the wildflowers bloom again this year at the summer house, this nasty virus will have passed.
I can’t believe the things I see on the telle showing stores gutted over your way. I just don’t get it, especially the toilet paper. I guess those who are hoarding all the toilet paper have forgotten all the possible uses of that IKEA catalog they get. We’re fortunate here as the Swedish government has been preparing us for a crisis for some time and advised all those living here to have a minimum of a month’s basic foodstuffs on hand at all times as well as water and such. No, they didn’t see this coming, but we do have a great fear of the Great Bear (Russia) at our Nothern border. So, we have plenty of toilet paper, the markets still have food on the shelves, but no hand sanitizer. Not to worry though, Absolut vodka just shifted their production so as to make hand sanitizer.
Sorry to be ‘showing off’ but I am actually quite proud at how our ‘leaders’ are getting their act together ! We have a fabulous NSW State Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, who ‘talks to us’ multiple times a day. The huge multi-storied bushfire control centre in Sydney has been turned into the State COVID19 centre and the latest is there to see. Yes, the large number who are over it changes positively hour by hour and only a v small number are in hospital in intensive care . The curve will get sharper ere it flattens out . . . and there is an overflow of toilet paper in the distribution store – we simply do not have the trucking ability to keep shelves full ! Parents are taking children to supermarket checkouts and other supply places with ‘thank you’ letters to staff and many people have volunteered to help te elderly and infirm with shopping etc !! Many in lockdown have hung their Christmas decorations and lights outside their widows to share the experience with others . . . . in 10 hours we are totally locking our doors . . . possibly for up to a year, but . . . we are self-sufficient as far as food goes . . . so sorry for the people losing jobs and income . . . . oh, some stories at which one can only laugh ! – elderly obviously well-off lady at a supermarket entrance gobsmacked at the snaking pensioners’ Q for the 7am-8am oldies only shop – ‘Oh, how demeaning’ ere walking away . . . there always has to be one . . .
You brag away girl, we need all the positive news we can get. I’m so glad that you guys are looking ok so far and hopefully stay that way through this campaign. I love the Christmas decoration idea, might just put ours back up. I’m sorry for the job losses and hope your government can help those folks out. Here, it’s said that we’re in good shape in that department, although we’ll see. If your sick or lose your job because of C-vid you receive 80% of your salary until this passes and the world is better. Just very briefly to compare and contrast ! Yes, same 80% pay from the Govt if it passes in Canberra next week. Of course a couple of weeks down NSW in Australia may be as bad as Italy and China ! Idiocies happen !! Sydney is one of the Southern Hemisphere’s cruise capitals in the summer months – last week three liners were allowed to disembark a total of 0000 passengers onto Sydney streets – all had COVID19 +ive passengers on board ! And then two days ago 25,000 stubborn Sydneysiders decided they all wanted to get the virus together and had a night-long very intimate and drunk party on the famed Bondi Beach !!! All Southern beaches are now officially closed – you should have seen the hundreds of their surfboards an the beaches this morning . . . sadly Aussies will not be told until . . .
It saddens me to see the lack of compassion on the part of some, especially our young future. Fortunately, I believe these rebels are in the minority. It would be interesting to see what those young people on Bondi beach think of their actions when they are at the point in life many of us are. Hopefully, your holding up well and can still enjoy a glass of wine and a decent meal now and then.
Great reminder about the power of social media here, Ron. We’re all healthy and safe here, but we decided to keep Robbie home from preschool this week out of abundance of caution. Laura and I are both working from home, too. Needless to say, we’re about to go bonkers! We do get out of the house each day for a walk around the neighborhood, but other than that it’s total isolation. No play dates. No adult dates. Nothing. I’ve always liked working from home since it’s nice and quiet, but it’s no longer nice and quiet. Plus, add in the fact that I can’t leave the house, and it’s rough. But the good news is we are safe and healthy. 🙂 I hope you, Eva and Chloe stay that way, too!
David, I believe you guys are making a sound decision regarding taking an abundance of caution. But, I can relate to the bonkers thing. I worked from home or from a one-man office for 35 years so I’m OK with the isolation but I do miss Eva and my weekend errand running, but it shall return.

The pandemic was slow to start, but it is here. We have been in lockdown to assist our hospitals to gear up. We remain blessed but many people are not in the same boat as us and are suffering. Stay safe and well 🙂
Stay safe my friend.. It is good to hear that the people of Sweden are as prepared as they are. A lot of Floridians try to be prepared as we have the possibility of hurricanes from June to December but not for something like this.

Hi Sherry, it has been hard to keep one’s spirits up these days and it takes a real effort to find happy things just now. But they are there. I’m amazed at how mankind’s humanity is coming through and disappointed at the lack of it with some politicians. Trump has indeed made a mess of things back in the good old USA.
